Sheron Garrett, 30, has been sentenced to 92 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised probation if he were to be released after being found guilty of murdering his victim after threatening him during an argument.
Specifically, Garrett was convicted of:
- First-degree murder;
- Conspiracy to commit murder;
- Possession of a regulated firearm by a person with a felony conviction.
Harford County State's Attorney Albert J. Peisinger, Jr., said that on Sept. 29, 2019, sheriff’s deputies responded to an apartment complex on Edgewater Drive in Edgewood where there was a reported shooting.
Upon arrival, deputies located Deandre Sellers, who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Sellers was treated for his injuries at the scene by deputies and paramedics, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators were advised that Sellers had been involved in a verbal altercation earlier in the day which ended with a threat of violence against him, according to Peisinger. A second argument was later reported which ended with gunshots ringing out.
During the investigation, the DA said that investigators located and collected three shell casings from the scene of the murder, as well as a cleaning rod to an SKS assault rifle.
A week later, the SKS assault rifle itself was found by a concerned citizen and reported to law enforcement, Peisinger said.
Investigators were able to recover a fingerprint from tape around the gun and matched that fingerprint to Garrett, and further testing confirmed that the assault rifle fired the casings that were recovered at the murder scene.
Peisinger said that Garrett denied having been in Harford County on the day of the shooting or for months prior, but cell data analysis provided by the FBI determined that he traveled from his home in Baltimore City to the scene of the murder at the time of the shooting.
“Sheron Garrett deserved and received a significant sentence for this senseless and violent act that terrorized this neighborhood,” Peisinger said in a statement following the sentencing.
“This should serve as a message to all, that violence will not be tolerated in Harford County and I will continue to pursue the most significant sentences available for those individuals who harm our citizens.”
